NSW issues Class 2 security industry licences in subclasses 2A Security Consultant, 2B Security Seller, 2C Security Equipment Specialist, 2D Security Trainer and 2E Private Investigator through Service NSW and NSW Police; Class 1 covers guards, bodyguards and monitoring centre operators.

In Victoria a person employed or retained to install, repair, service or maintain security equipment must hold a Victoria Police private security licence as a security equipment installer; advising on security equipment or methods needs a security adviser licence.

NSW requires a contractor licence for glazing work worth more than $5,000 in labour and materials including GST, covering glass in windows, doors, screens, fences, balustrades and partitions. Unlicensed work attracts penalties of up to $22,000 for individuals and $110,000 for companies.

Under the Security Services Industry Award (MA000016), a full-time Security officer level 1 must be paid at least $28.42 an hour ($1,080.10 a week), level 3 at least $29.73 and level 5 at least $31.20, effective 1 July 2026.

Alarm and CCTV installers fall under the Electrical, Electronic and Communications Contracting Award 2020, whose coverage clause 4.3(b) names security alarm systems and fire alarm systems; its standard rate for an Electrical worker grade 5 is $1,119.10 a week ($29.45 an hour) from 1 July 2026 before allowances.
